Resistors are typically marked with colored bands, which indicate the resistance and tolerance. Click the buttons above to indicate the bands on your resistor, and the resistance will display above.
A color-coded resistor has 3 to 6 bands, of three types. The first 2 bands represent digits, and there may be a 3rd digit (but this calculator supports only two digits). Immediately after the digit bands is a multiplier band. There may be an additional band, set apart from the others, representing tolerance (if this band is absent, the tolerance is 20%). There may also be a 6th band, indicating how the resistance changes with temperature (but this calculator does not support it). The color values are in the table below:
Color | Digit | Mult | Tol. (%) |
---|---|---|---|
Pink | - | 0.001 | - |
Silver | - | 0.01 | 10 |
Gold | - | 0.1 | 5 |
Black | 0 | 1 | - |
Brown | 1 | 10 | 1 |
Red | 2 | 100 | 2 |
Orange | 3 | 1K | 0.05 |
Yellow | 4 | 10K | 0.02 |
Green | 5 | 100K | 0.5 |
Blue | 6 | 1M | 0.25 |
Violet | 7 | 10M | 0.1 |
Gray | 8 | 100M | 0.01 |
